Mission

The mission of the Institute of Chemical Methodologies is the development of sustainable chemical processes and technologies aimed at improving the quality of humankind life. In fact, relying on consolidated skills and competences that cover most of chemical disciplines and in some human sciences, IMC personnel are involved in three strategic thematic areas, i.e. Food and Agriculture, Health, Environment and Cultural Heritage, all focusing on and sharing the general objective of humankind well-being.
The IMC was established in 2002 by the union among the Institute of Chromatography, the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and the Service of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance. A year later even the former Study Center on Reaction Mechanisms joined IMC.
The union of these four former CNR bodies has founded IMC as a unique reality, with multidisciplinary skills ranging from radiation chemistry to separation science, to inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and colloid chemistry, physics and biology
In addition to the scientific tradition based on an extended number of chemical disciplines there is the presence of researchers and technologists with a liberal arts background. IMC is therefore able to optimally deal with the major interdisciplinary challenges outlined by the National Research Programme and by the European Research Programme, Horizon 2020, within the three thematic areas in which it operates (Food and Agriculture, Health, Environment and Cultural Heritage).
Within these areas IMC personnel, taking into account three priorities, such as i) the strategic value of the addressed issues, ii) the scientific excellence in the field of chemical science, and iii) the sustainability of the processes and products developed, generate knowledge, transfer it to applications, and form the young generation.
