The Interdepartmental Center for City Science (C.I.S.C.), established within the National Research Council (CNR), aims to serve as a reference point for science and research, with the goal of supporting city management. Through the development of Urban Intelligence, the advancement of scientific knowledge, and the technological transfer of results, the Center seeks to promote urban innovation and sustainability.
The Interdepartmental Center for City Science was inaugurated in Rome on July 2, 2024, during an event organized by the Department of Engineering, ICT, and Technologies for Energy and Transport (CNR-DIITET). This multidisciplinary network, composed of CNR Departments and Institutes, aims to support urban governance through the use of urban intelligence.
The main objective of the Center open to collaboration with other research institutions, universities, public administrations, and businesses is the development of Digital Twins: virtual representations of cities that will allow for better analysis and understanding of urban dynamics through technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and simulation.
CISC will coordinate pilot projects dedicated to urban intelligence in different areas of the country, with its headquarters in Rome and various territorial units that will adopt the project.
