IAEG - International Association of Engineering Geology and the Environment

IAEG was founded in 1964 and is affiliated to the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). IAEG is a global science company with more than 4,400 members and 69 national/regional groups. IAEG’s purposes are:

  • to promote and encourage the progress of research in the field of geological engineering;
  • to improve education and training in geological engineering;
  • to collect, evaluate and disseminate the results of geological engineering  activities on a worldwide basis.

The International Association for Geological Engineering and Environment cooperates with numerous international scientific organizations and has the following major activities:

  • it publishes a quarterly magazine, the Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, published by Springer Verlag, containing original scientific papers in English and French, book reviews, congresses' proceedings, and a geo-journal;
  • it cooperates with committees made up of eminent scholars on the world stage that examine the current state of the art on various subjects, promoting international collaboration between geologists and engineers who are interested in geological engineering and related environmental problems;
  • it sponsors international meetings;
  • it publishes a newsletter, sent to all IAEG members four time a year;
  • it assigns a medal and a prize on a biennial basis.

IAEG Congress is held every four years in a different host nation. IAEG's activities are also organized as part of the International Geological Congress. IAEG also sponsors various international symposia and regional conferences organized by the national committees on specific topics.
