Massimo Clemente, Research Director since 2001, has been Director of the CNR ITC since 1 July 2024, former Director of the CNR IRISS, Institute for Research on Innovation and Services for Development (2020-2024). He graduated in architecture with honors (1987, Corsicato Foundation Award) at the University of Naples Federico II, where he also specialized in Monument Restoration (1990). His academic training developed in the research group "Technological innovation and territorial transformations for the city of the 21st century" (1989-2000), coordinated by Prof. Corrado Beguinot and Prof. Urbano Cardarelli, at the University of Naples Federico II (Department of Planning and Territorial Science) and at the National Research Council (Institute for Planning and Territorial Management). His scientific career at the CNR began with grants (1989) and scientific collaboration contracts, and then progressed to Researcher (1994), Senior Researcher (2001), and Research Director (2001) at the Institute for Territorial Planning and Management (IPIGET). He currently coordinates an interdisciplinary research group on urban regeneration processes and sustainable territorial development, addressing them from a multidisciplinary perspective, complementing his expertise in urban planning and architecture with the social sciences and cultural heritage, engaging with engineering and exact sciences. Scientific director of numerous projects of national relevance, he has coordinated international cooperation projects funded by the European Union and the United Nations, and has served as a referee for the evaluation of research projects within the European Research Council. Member of the Commission for the evaluation of University building programs 2021-2035 and Member of the Commission for the evaluation of AFAM building programs 2021-2035 (in implementation of the Ministerial Decree 10/12/2021, no. 1274), President of the Construction Council of Naples, Director of the International Scientific Committee of RETE International Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities, former Member of the Management Committee of the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea (2019-2021), former Member of the Board of Directors of the Aldo Della Rocca Foundation, a non-profit organization for urban planning studies, Member of the Board of Directors of the Promos Ricerche Consortium, former Member of the Board of Directors of the INU (National Institute of Urban Planning, Campania Section), former Member of the Council of Representatives of the SIU (Italian Society of Urban Planners) representing the CNR IRISS, Vice President of the Aniai Campania (Federated National Association of Italian Engineers Architects), promoter and Chair of the Green Blue Days Project (with Prof. Antonio Uricchio, President of ANVUR). Since graduating, he has consistently published over 120 scientific papers in printed volumes, international and national journals, and conference proceedings.
