Mission

CNR-ISTI stands as the largest CNR institute dedicated to Computer Science, boasting a staff of approximately 170 full-time employees and around 80-90 students and collaborators, thus in total around 250 units.
ISTI is steadfast in its commitment to achieving scientific excellence and actively participating in technology transfer. Its domain of expertise encompasses Computer Science & Technologies along with a broad array of applications. The institute's activities are geared towards advancing knowledge, fostering the development and testing of new ideas, and broadening application areas.
ISTI actively collaborates with the academic world and engages in cooperative research and development programs at both national and international levels. Moreover, the institute plays a substantial role in teaching activities across bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. levels, contributing through diverse training initiatives in collaboration with national and international universities.
ISTI has garnered solid expertise and a commendable reputation in designing and deploying research e-infrastructures, and open-source software, as well as in technology transfer activities geared towards industry and public administrations.
While the majority of research activities are conducted within the context of the Engineering, ICT, Energy, and Transport Technologies Department (DIITET) of CNR, some research initiatives are also pursued in collaboration with other CNR thematic departments. These include "Human and Social Sciences-Cultural Heritage", "Physical Sciences and Matter Technologies", and "Biomedical Sciences".

The scientific activity at ISTI is structured into 6 thematic areas and 13 research laboratories, each enjoying significant scientific and administrative autonomy.
