Mission
The Opera del Vocabolario Italiano is the Institute of the CNR which has the task of elaborating the historical Italian vocabulary, and at the moment the historical vocabulary of the ancient Italian ("Tesoro della Lingua Italiana delle Origini"), which is published in progress online (http://tlio.ovi.cnr.it/TLIO). The performance of this task entails the elaboration of computerised textual databases, accessible online (in particular, but not only, the "Corpus OVI dell'Italiano antico", http://gattoweb.ovi.cnr.it) and the creation and development of specific software. In the long term, OVI proposes the task of drafting also the successive chronological sections of the historical vocabulary (up to the twentieth century) and to update and develop vocabulary, databases and software in step with the advances of philological, historical-linguistic and informatics research.
