EUROPARC - Federation of Nature and National Parks of Europe

EUROPARC is the umbrella organization for Europe's protected areas. It gathers national parks, regional parks, nature parks and biosphere reserves in 38 countries having the common goal of protecting the unique variety of wildlife, habitats and landscapes of Europe. The EUROPARC Federation brings together a wide range of organizations and individuals engaged in the policy and practice of managing parks and protected areas across Europe. In the 27 years as of its creation, it has done a lot to spread the "good practices" and to promote a common understanding of the protected areas network. During the EUROPARC General Assembly held in 1999, in Zakopane, Poland, a strategic document was approved by its members, which provides a framework scheme for the Federation’s future developments. While the strategy focuses on the organization and modus operandi of the Federation, the main implied purpose is to enable the Federation to play a key role in acquiring the vision of an adequate, efficient and well-managed network of protected areas in Europe, such to preserve the entire landscape and biological diversity of the continent.
