ICLAS - International Council for Laboratory Animal Science

Organism do not fall within the remit of ‘European and International Relations’ Office since 2011.

ICLAS is a scientific organization devoted to the advancement of human and animal health that promotes the treatment and ethical use of laboratory animals in international research. The purposes of ICLAS are:

  • promote and coordinate the development of the "Animal Science Laboratory" worldwide and, as a priority issue, in developing nations;
  • promote international collaboration in the science of laboratory animals;
  • promote the classification and monitoring of the quality of laboratory animals;
  • collect and disseminate information on the science of laboratory animals;
  • to promote worldwide harmonization in the treatment and use of laboratory animals;
  • promote the human use of animals in research through the recognition of ethical principles and scientific responsibilities;
  • promote Russell and Burch's '3R' principles
