Dr. De Bellis got his degree in Chemistry, cum Laude, in 1987 and since 1989 he started working as a researcher at the National Research Council, Institute for Biomedical Technologies where he became Senior Scientist in 2005. He taught Molecular Biology from 2000 to 2006 at the University of Brescia and at the PolyTechnic school in Milan
Dr. De Bellis has obtained nearly 40 grants on projects focused on DNA analysis from the EU, MIUR, Minsalute, Telethon, FISM, AriSLA, Fondazione Cariplo and from several Industries. Since 1996 he focused on microarray technology. In 2004 he started working on massive sequencing technology, being the leader of the first Italian group working in this field. He has published over 110 papers on international peer-reviewed journals with an overall number of citations above 1800 and an H-index of 30 (Google Scholar). Considering just the last ten years the citations sum up to 1300 with an H-index of 26. He holds 6 patents in microarray technology. His group has published over 30 papers on the application of the massive sequencing technology in diverse scientific and technological contexts ranging from human genome resequencing to plant genome sequencing, microbial sequencing and microbiome analysis.
