Research activities
Based on the activities carried out in the recent past and on ongoing projects, the scientific areas are mainly focused on the characterization of the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the development of different diseases. This approach is defined as the study of endotypes, understood as the correlation and integration of genetic-epigenetic aspects with environmental/phenotypic ones, mainly described by non-coding RNA, lipid, glycidic, and proteomic profiles (including their post-translational modifications, PTMs). The overall objectives include the identification of disease markers, both for diagnostic purposes and for monitoring, as well as therapeutic targets, by integrating basic and applied research. These activities will increasingly need to be developed within a Systems Biology/Medicine framework in order to move toward a more personalized medicine
