The Rights of Persons with Disabilities: the UN Convention and implementing Practice at international, European and national levels

In the framework of the ISGI Project "Multilevel protection of human rights between international law, European law and domestic legal order", the volume The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. A Commentary edited by V. Della Fina, R. Cera, G. Palmisano, Springer, pp. XXXII- 765, ISBN 978-3-319-43788-0, also in the e-book version ISBN 978-3-319-43790-3, has been published (see https://www.springer.com/la/book/9783319437880 ).
The book is the main scientific result of the multi-year research carried out by ISGI on the international protection of people with disabilities and represents the first and, to date, the unique Commentary on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities published in English.
The volume fills a gap in international doctrine in this field by providing an article-by-article analysis of the Convention, a general comment on its Optional Protocol and deepening some specific themes in the three introductory essays and the final chapter.
The editors' approach to the Commentary is the result of the reflections developed in this scientific field by ISGI which, for over a decade, has been carrying out research and consultancy on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the European Union law (EU is a Party to the Convention) and in the domestic law.
This approach is reflected in the comments to the Convention's provisions which take into account the pertinent practice, developed at international and domestic levels, ten years after the adoption of the Convention by the UN General Assembly.
The volume is also the result of a wide-ranging scientific collaboration involving several ISGI researchers, numerous academics and experts on the rights of persons with disabilities both Italian and foreign, including two members of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
