Abstract

doMino is an interdisciplinary project aimed to develop efficient mixed matrix membranes based on purposely synthesized (per-)fluorinated metal organic frameworks for the treatment of large amounts of CO2 and to promote them for the reduction of green gas house emission and a sustainable development of industrial processes. The research activities of doMino span from the synthesis of highly innovative materials and their characterization with state-of-the-art techniques to their modelling for the study of structure-property relationships, to their exploitation for the preparation of mixed matrix membranes for gas separation as self-standing films and thin film composites.
After its successful completion, doMino will constitute a breakthrough for membrane technology in other crucial areas of Italian scientific excellence, not only from the fundamental point of view, but also from the applicative standpoint. Mixed matrix membranes can also play a key role in other gas separation processes, such as H2 recovery, N2 production and O2 production/enrichment for medical applications, and in liquid-liquid separations, such as oil/water separation and water treatment.
