Abstract
The objective of this proposal is to answer the recommendations outlined in the SESS report 2020 and 2018 about the description of the Core Variable SCD 2.8, 2.10 and 2.11: the snow height, the snow cover and the snow temperature. These variables are routinely measured at two different sites using in-situ sensors and ground-based remote sensing through time-lapse cameras. The application of terrestrial photography will support the availability of high-spatially resolved information about the snow cover. The dataset will be prepared following the guidelines reported in the SESS reports, focusing the attention on the Ny Alesund area, where research infrastructures have been operating since decades. Datasets will be deployed on the Italian Arctic Data Center and they will be prepared in the NetCDF file format in order to maximize the interoperability and the re-usability of the considered information.
