Abstract

The BESIDE project aims to develop an ICT-based system for monitoring elderly people having neurodegenerative diseases such as the Alzheimer's disease or dementia, while living at home or at residential care settings.
Constant monitoring of the behavioral status of patients in order to provide objective observations about the progression of the disease.
Constant surveying of patients in order to prevent falls or escapes.
Augmented Medical Record (support Medical Staff and/or Relatives)
Warning caregivers or specialized personnel about particular events such as dangerous situations, falls or escapes.
Integration of a multiplicity of sensors for scene interpretation; gesture/activity recognition; behavior analysis; sleep monitoring; fall prevention; escape prevention/detection.

Goals

The principal activities relative to BESIDE project and in charge of STIIMA partner are:
-definition of camera setup for the acquisition of videos relative to the execution of the single tests included in the motion protocol that the patients execute
-low-level processing of the videos acquired by the system that is related to registration and corrections of anomalies generated during the acquisition phase
-high level processing of videos for the extraction of useful information relative to the observations of motion protocol such as for example functional abilities of patients or theri risk of fall.
