Profile

José Lorenzana was born in Milan, Italy in 1964. He received a degree in physics (Licenciatura) from the Instituto Balseiro-University of
Cuyo, Argentina, in 1988 and a Ph.D. degree in Theory of Condensed Matter from the International School for Advanced Studies, Trieste,
Italy. He was a postdoctoral researcher in the group of George Sawatzky at the University of Groningen, Holland in the years 1993-1994 and in the group of Serge Aubry at the León Brillouin Laboratory, Saclay, France in the years 1995-1996. In 1996, he joined the Centro Atómico Bariloche and Instituto Balseiro, Bariloche Argentina, as CONICET staff researcher where he remained until 2002. After that, he moved to the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy where he occupied various research positions as staff researcher of INFM and CNR until now. Presently, he is Director of Research at the Institute of Complex Systems, CNR, Rome. From June 2009 to March 2010 he served as Director of the Center Statistical Mechanics and Complexity (Sapienza-INFM-CNR) and from March 2010 to December 2015 he served as head of the Sapienza unit of the Institute of Complex Systems which incorporated the former Statistical Mechanics and Complexity Center. He has directed three postdocs, nine undergraduate students, and four Ph.D. students. He has more than 120 publications in international journals and he has participated in over 40 international conferences as invited speaker.
