The described application constitutes the first part of a project in which the experience on vehicle management, developed in the car field, is transferred to the heavy-duty vehicles, which use hydraulic systems for power transmission and motion generation. The project belongs to the activity area of the IMAMOTER institute directed to the evolution of power management systems for vehicles in the agricultural and earth-moving field. Mapping techniques and complex diagnosis systems have allowed the realization of a very flexible prototype, easily adaptable to different vehicle typologies, both in the agricultural and in the earth-moving field, capable of fulfilling requests of comfort, drivability and reliability, with an emphasis on safety.
The use of non-traditional and non-linear control systems has been accomplished through the design of microprocessor control boards, implementing an evolved system of diagnosis of the electro-hydraulic systems and management of fault conditions, capable of leading in any circumstance the vehicle to a safe condition for the operator and the surrounding environment in case of possible faults. The result achieved in this project is the realization of an electronically controlled hydrostatic transmission with novel functionalities, capable of:
·
improving the performance with respect to the classical hydrostatic transmissions, in terms of comfort, safety and ease of use;
·
limiting the jerk, the pressure peaks and the stress on the driveline;
·
obtaining a flexible system, adaptable to vehicles having different typology, dimensions, and power available on the shaft. The manufacturer will have, with a single investment, a solution suitable for its whole production of hydrostatic transmissions. The project has allowed the start of cooperation with the company HP Hydraulic S.r.l. that involves among the others the activation of a public funded project (Italian law 593/2000) and the placement at disposal of the company of one staff unit at the Institute for two years.
