Memorandum of Understanding between CNR and Fraunhofer

The National Research Council of Italy and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement was signed by the CNR President Prof. Massimo Inguscio and of Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. CNR is the main research public organization in Italy, Fraunhofer is the leading organization for applied research in Europe. Through this MoU both parties will extend their joint activities - for example - to the fields of Quantum Communication, Smart Agriculture, Cultural Heritage, Industry 4.0

 

The National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and the German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft signed yesterday Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement was signed at the CNR headquarter in Rome by the CNR President Prof. Massimo Inguscio and by Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.

CNR is the main research public organization in Italy, counts almost 10,000 employees and is organized in around a hundred Institutes deployed all over Italy, grouped into seven Departments covering the main areas of science and culture. Fraunhofer is Europe’s leading organization for applied research with more than 26,600 employees and 72 institutes and research units at locations throughout Germany. They have already collaborated in several EU-projects and through this MoU they will extend their joint activities - for example - to the fields of: Quantum Communication, Smart Agriculture, Cultural Heritage, Industrie 4.0.

 "We will collaborate through several activities of mutual interest: education and training, innovation and technology transfer, enhancement of the capacity to attract funds and resources, dissemination and any other activity deemed of mutual interest”, said prof. Inguscio. “A joint executive Committee will take care of planning concrete projects, which will be formalized in separate written agreements”.

“International cooperation with excellent partners is a central prerequisite for research at the highest level and for targeted transfer of knowledge”, said prof. Neugebauer. “Collaboration with the National Research Council of Italy has already proven very successful in many EU projects. The further deepening of our joint research activities in areas relevant to the future such as Industry 4.0, Smart Agriculture and Cultural Heritage will soon yield positive results. In addition, we will work together in the field of quantum communication to establish a strategic cooperation that will later be extended to the European level”.

This Memorandum of Understanding shall have a duration of five years, extendible.
