Abstract
The European Union Directive 2018/2001 established a binding target to use at least 32% renewable energy by 2030, which means 12% more than in 2020. This supports and promotes the development of modern bio-fuels, more efficient and eco-friendly, to replace petroleum-based fuels, such as diesel and gasoline. Technically, the hydrotreating process of vegetable oils involves many different catalytic reactions, which mainly provide for the deoxygenation of triglycerides and free fatty acids. Indeed, the triglyceride molecules are generally hydrogenated and cleaved, producing three carboxylic acids and one molecule of C3H8. Therefore, the project aims to define an index of performance of catalyst in the HDO processes of vegetable oil (e.g. commercial rapeseed oil) and development of a proper scale of reactivity. Validation of the catalytic test, also towards its eventual redesign or improvement, optimization or fine tuning.
