Abstract

The main objective of this activity is to analyse airborne SAR data with different wavelengths, including C- and L-band. The data will be collected with the Contractor's own system (F-SAR) within an internal research project and will be acquired considering a possible simulation of interferometric backscatter and phase products for a geostationary SAR mission, such as the EE10 candidate mission Hydroterra, as well as for the LEO missions, ROSE-L and Sentinel-1 NG. One flight campaign will focus on acquiring a SAR image stack over (dry) snow to investigate the derivation of SWE. The Woergetal in the Kuehtai region in Austria near the city of Innsbruck is foreseen as test site. The other flight campaign will take place in the Mediterranean to test the image formation process under varying soil moisture conditions, for which the Apulian Tavoliere in the Puglia region near the town of Foggia will serve as a test site. Ten - fifteen passes will be required in one flight to simulate the geostationary data products. In coincidence with the SAR acquisitions, ground measurements, e.g. soil moisture and vegetation parameters, will be collected over selected fields.
