Abstract

The project addressess the issue of the prevention of type 2 diabetes onset, which indeed is to some extent preventable or at least can be delayed in many patients by adequate lifestyle changes, when glycoregulation disorder is diagnosed in the early phase. On the basis of longitudinally screened cohorts and detailed analysis of the shapes of glycemic, insulinemic, and C-peptide curves in the context of metabolic, genetic and demographic data, further information will be provided on the effect of possible risk and protective factors on metabolic profile and its changes over the years. This information will be specific for the particular metabolic types, based on their response to glucose load. The main aim is to individualize prevention or timing of optimal and considerate therapeutic intervention. To this purpose, IN-CNR will evaluate 3-hour oGTT data, with focus on dynamics of glucose, insulin, and C-peptide, and their possible relevance in terms of prediction of glucose tolerance disorders.
