Abstract
Communities and business shared areas such as university campuses, shopping centres and industrial estates provide parking spaces for a large number of vehicles. Therefore the imminent mass electrification of transport requires the installation of charging points for a significant percentage of these spaces. These additional charging points affect the daily electricity consumption patterns in the community area. Moreover, the peak electricity demand of the area may dramatically increase requiring grid reinforcement or other measures with its associated investment costs.
Goals
The objective of the EV-CHIP project is to evaluate the distribution grid, economics and users implications associated with electric vehicle adoption in a community area and to propose a multi-objective solution to reduce the impact of the power system constraints that might otherwise curtail adoption rates while supporting the electrification of transport in shared and communities areas.
