Abstract

Reliable prediction of oceanic waves during severe marine storms has always been foremost for offshore platform design, coastal activities, and navigation safety. Indeed, many damaging accidents and casualties at sea have been most likely ascribed to abnormal and unexpected waves during storms. In this respect, the research project "METNorway" aims at improving the existing knowledge on the characterization of oceanic maximum and rogue waves in the North Sea, from the EKOFISK platform.

Goals

- Support for the analysis of stereo wave data collected from the Ekofisk platform.
- Analysis of a selection of storm cases to get an estimate of the distribution function of individual extreme wave parameters (namely, maximum crest height and maximum crest-to-trough wave height).
- Estimate the areal effect on wave maxima.
- Study the groupiness and its relation to wave breaking.

Start date of activity

01/04/2020

Keywords

Onde estreme, Rogue waves, spettro d'onda
