Abstract

This project addresses with a transdisciplinary approach characterization and management of contaminated soils.
Soil spatial variability at field scale will be assessed by using geophysical and geochemical methods for designing precision phytoremediation models based on biomass crops and meadows for stimulating biodegradation, phytoextraction and exposure pathways interruption.
Soils from different areas will be massively sampled for mesoscale activities: evaluation of contaminant bio-availability by chemical met.;assessment of contamination, bioavailability and remediation byX-ray technology;microscopical assessment of contaminant dynamics;physiological, biochemical and molecular aspects of rhizosphere;microbial consortium with multiple biotechnological activities Biomasses will be used for pyrolysis optimization aimed to recover secondary raw materials. Char and microbial consortium will be used in mesocosms for evaluating their effects on remediation
The hypothesis informing this project is that by combining different approaches it is possible to develop new cost saving, environmental friendly and socially acceptable protocols for the sustainable management of contaminated soils
