Abstract
FORCE is relevant to the development of damage-tolerant and oxidation resistant materi-als for use at high temperature in oxidizing atmospheres. The basis objective is the devel-opment of novel buffer layers able to prevent fibers degradation during sintering and oxi-dation, which will be fundamental for the design and production of functionally graded ul-tra-high temperature composites (FG-UHTC) containing short carbon fibers with enhanced thermo-mechanical properties for applications under extreme environments.
Goals
Development of functionally graded ceramics based on ZrB2 and enriched with C short fibers. Thermo-mechanical characterization and production of a complex shape with architecture that optimizes fracture toughness, weight and ablation resistance.
Start date of activity
15/08/2019
Keywords
functionally graded ceramic, fracture toughness, ablation resistance
