Abstract

The atmospheric windows are important for the observation of the lower atmosphere as well as the surface of a terrestrial planet and an accurate knowledge of their transmission is essential for the interpretation of satellite and ground based infrared observations. The main absorption bands are formally absent in these atmospheric windows, but the contributions of the far-wings [3,4], and collision induced absorption, especially at high densities, become important, though difficult to be measured in the laboratory. Presently cavity ring down spectroscopy is the most sensitive tool to explore the weak absorption in atmospheric windows [1,2,5-7].The coupling of a CRD apparatus to a recently constructed atmospheric simulation chamber, offers a unique opportunity to investigate in Venus-like conditions the CO2 absorption in several near infrared atmospheric windows of Venus that hitherto have been left unexplored.
