Abstract

BATA project aims to propose innovative strategies for the removal of arsenic from
water. Particularly, the objective of the different actions of the present project are:
1) Discovering new bacteria present in As contaminated water bodies localized in Lombardia that could be
used as biocatalizers in arsenic mitigation processes.
2) Developing new methodologies to provide science-based evidence for the use of indigenous AsIII
oxidizing bacterial strains in association with iron-based adsorbing materials.
3) Contributing to the implementation of a pilot-scale treatment process to verify the hypothesis
postulated in laboratory-scale experiments.
4) Reinforcing excellence of research and increasing performance, internalization and impact of R&D,
spillovers and innovation systems and support high-level education for young scientists fostered by the
robust and multidisciplinary specialism offered.
