Abstract

aeroacustics, jet noise
Abstract: AeroTraNet 2 is a Marie Curie Action of the European Commission's 7th Framework Programme. It trains 9 Early Stage Researchers and 2 Experienced Researchers in front-line, integrated, industry relevant research in unsteady aerodynamics and noise for the next generation of environmentally friendly wide-body civil aircraft.

Building upon the multi-host Early Stage Training (EST) FP6 programme AeroTraNet, AeroTraNet2 clusters the complementary expertise of:
- five established European academic institutes (University of Leicester, University of Greenwich, University of Roma TRE, Von Karman Institute, Institut de Mechanique des fluides de Toulouse);
- two European multi-national companies (AIRBUS, ALSTOM);
- one Small and Medium Enterprise (Cerfacs), and;
- one one national research (CNR INSEAN) centre;
to offer structured, flexible, well-integrated, doctoral and post-doctoral training programme for the new generation of aerodynamics and noise specialists. CNR INSEAN addresses the common objective of modelling shock cell noise in a wide-body aircraft engine configuration from AIRBUS by the development of advanced laser-based measurement techniques.

Goals

By combining their well-established doctoral training schools and graduate training programmes, the academic and industrial partners will train a well-integrated team of nine ESRs and two ERs who have learnt to combine their different research techniques to push forward the state of the art of shock cell noise prediction applied to aircraft design. This is a significant progress in structuring the European research training capacity in aerodynamics, noise and knowledge capturing, for the EU's knowledge based economy.
