Institute for informatics and telematics (IIT)

Training

The Institute gives a significant contribution to the training of professional, highly qualified people. The IIT training programmes are wide-ranging and involve graduates at various levels, research doctors, technicians, and operators of Internet services.
In this area IIT works closely with the Department of Information Engineering: Electronics, Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of Pisa. By means of the many training courses and events (conferences and workshops) organised by the staff of the Institute, an effective transfer of know-how to the productive structure of the nation can be made.

Training is carried out in the following fields:

- University Master in Internet Technologies (Level 1)
The Master is organized by the Department of Computer Engineering: Electronics, Informatics, Telecommunications of the University of Pisa together with the Institute for Informatics and Telematics of the CNR of Pisa, under the patronage of the Italian Registry.
The Master course includes the "Cisco Networking Academy Program", useful as a step towards CCNA certification, which is taught by the CISCO Academies: "Informatics Engineering - Networking and Multimedia" and "CNR - Pisa Research Area".
The Master in Internet Technologies lasts one academic year and is worth 60 CFU points: comprising lectures (26 CFU), laboratory practice (18 CFU) and final apprenticeship in a company (16 CFU).

- PhD in Information Engineering: "Pisa International Summer School on The Next Generation Internet"
The Institute of Informatics and Telematics of CNR and the Department of Computer Engineering: Electronics, Informatics, Telecommunications of the University of Pisa organize an international school for advanced research in Internet and networks called "Pisa International School on Next Generation Internet", addressed to doctorate students and young researchers.
The School offers annual courses on this specific sector which are held by university experts, research organisations and other highly scientifically qualified Italian and international experts. The School is addressed to doctorate students in Information Engineers and to young researchers of IIT-CNR. The School's courses are opened to other Pisa University doctorate students, such as those of the "Leonardo da Vinci" Doctorate Faculty in Engineering as well as to young researchers from other Italian or international universities and research organisations.

o Computational Mathematics: computational geometry (Department of Computer Science Pisa University) M. Pellegrini
o Calculus of equilibria in games and markets (Department of Computer Science Pisa University) B. Codenotti
o Programming laboratory (Department of Mathematics Pisa University) P. Santi
o Cycle of seminars, part of the course on Mobile networks (Department Computer Science Pisa University) P. Santi

- Training courses for Internet Service Providers/Maintainers
With regard to the registration and management of domain names under the .it country code top level domain, IIT organizes several annual training courses at national level for Internet Service Providers and Maintainers. The courses are as follows:
o Basic course in registering domain names under the ccTLD .it
o Advanced course on DNS
o Course on the legal and juridical aspects regarding domain names
o Course on Linux
o Course on Web Technologies
o Course on Information Security
o Course on email

- CISCO Academy (CCNA e CCNP)
From November 2000 IIT participates in the Cisco Networking Academy Program as a Local Networking Academy (Academy ID: 36507). The academy located at the Pisa Research Area, prepare students for "Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA)" and "Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP)" with qualified instructors.
The courses for CCNP certification, addressed to technical staff, students and graduate, are organized in 3 modules (CCNP1, CCNP2, CCNP3) The CCNP curriculum builds on Cisco CCNA® courses with more complex network configurations, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. The curriculum is intended for those interested in continuing their post-CCNA preparation to become network administrators, Level 2 support engineers, Level 2 systems engineers, network technicians, or deployment engineers.

- Training courses for CNR employees
IIT organizes professional training and updating courses for CNR employees on subjects related to Internet and to the Information and Communication Technologies.
In particular, IIT has organized the following courses held by lecturers belonging to the Institute with wide experience on the course subject matters:
