Arctic Circle Assembly 2025

From October 16 to 18, the city of Reykjavík will host the "Arctic Circle Assembly 2025", the annual event that brings together institutional representatives, research institutions, NGOs, and businesses involved in polar affairs to discuss the future of the most fragile and strategic region on the planet.

The CNR (National Research Council of Italy) will be involved in several key moments:

- Thursday, October 16, 9:40–10:35 AM: Opening session of the Assembly featuring a scientific panel organized by CNR-ISP on the topic "Changing Arctic systems: scientific insights and sustainable solutions," with contributions from Giuliana Panieri and Nicoletta Ademollo.

- Saturday, October 18, 2:25–3:20 PM: Session organized by the Osservatorio Artico on the topic "Heading to the Rome Forum 2026: Italy’s Role in the Changing Arctic," featuring, among others: Giuliana Panieri, who will speak about the value of scientific research as a tool for cooperation in a transforming Arctic order; Agostino Pinna, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on Italy and the Arctic and the development of the new National Arctic Strategy; Fabrizio Orengo, Director of the Italian Navy Hydrographic Institute, on the role of the Italian Navy between cooperation and security in the High North; Gunnar R., researcher and program director at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, expert in international relations in the Nordic and Arctic regions. The session will be moderated by Marco Dordoni, PhD candidate at the University for Foreigners of Perugia and contributor to Osservatorio Artico.

On the same day, the call for panel submissions for the Rome Forum 2026 will be officially launched.

- Saturday, October 18, 5:50–7:15 PM: Plenary Session organized by Arctic Circle in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR), dedicated to "The Arctic Circle Rome Forum," featuring a speech by Isabella Rauti, representing Italy.
