BIOMAT’s goal is to accelerate the European Bioeconomy, by providing sustainable solutions, with added value, from materials with a lower carbon footprint and making processes more efficient at an economic level, taking into account the Circular Economy guidelines.

Save the date: the deadline for the  Open Tender 1st Call (March 31st) is approaching, and now the SME companies have the opportunity to learn everything about the available processes and services. The idea is that these new solutions can replace the petroleum-based traditional Polyurethane foams and composites, commonly used in insulating structures in buildings, car interiors or upholstery, that usually lack essential properties, such as flame, bio-corrosion and chemical resistance, mechanical performance, antimicrobial properties, convenience by installation, and life cycle sustainability. Furthermore, the main objective of BIOMAT is to establish an Open Innovation Test Bed (TB) for the benefit of industries and SMEs, aiming to facilitate the cross-border partnership and accelerate innovation in composite bio-based insulation materials for these industries. Whitin BIOMAT Cnr (IPCB and SCITEC) will develop two TBs to produce #bio-based filler functionalization and #bio-based enabled Polyurethane foams at pilot scale through new processing technologies and novel bio-based foam formulations.

Running since January 2021, BIOMAT received more than 14 million euros in funding from the European Commission and will end in December 2024. It. The Project consortium comprises 26 entities from 8 countries: Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Latvia and Israel
