L'Istituto di elettronica e di ingegneria dell’informazione e delle telecomunicazioni del Consiglio nazionale delle ricerche (Cnr-Ieiit) organizza una serie di seminari con frequenza bisettimanale denominata "Incontri del giovedì" in cui vengono affrontate con il supporto di relatori di rilievo nell'ambito della ricerca scientifica, accademica ed industriale le tematiche caratterizzanti l'Istituto stesso, con una visione trasversale ai domini applicativi ed agli ambiti tecnologici ed uno sguardo rivolto alla loro evoluzione.
Giovedì 19 Maggio 2022 si svolge il seminario dal titolo “The inconvenient truth of sensor data in Assisted and Automated Driving”, con relatore la Prof. Valentina Donzella (University of Warwick) . L'evento si svolge sulla piattaforma Microsoft Teams.
Abstract:
This talk will describe some of the current technical challenges of Assisted and Automated driving functions, focusing particularly on aspects related to sensors and perception. One of the biggest challenges associated to sensing is the amount of data produced by the environmental perception sensor suite, and the need to transmit these data without latencies and without hindering perception. Our current work demonstrates that high levels of lossy compression can be applied to automotive video camera data without compromising deep neural network based perception and shows how detection can be optimised to cope with compressed data.
