The symposium, organized by Taya Cave Executive Committee, Saitama University and the Cnr-ISMed (Institute for Studies on the Mediterranean-National Research Council of Italy), is one of the outputs of the bilateral project Cnr/JSPS “Damage assessment and conservation of underground space as valuable resources for human activities use in Italy and Japan” coordinated by Roberta Varriale (Cnr-ISMed) from the Italian side, and from Chiaki T. Oguchi, from the Japanese side.

This is the first shared activity between the two sides after the Covid19 phase and represents the opportunity to share the expertise of the teams involved in the project with reference to selected case-studies from the new born class Underground Built Heritage (UBH) in Italy and in Japan.
