International Conference 'Endangered Cultural Heritage. Protection and enhancement of the Duhok Region archaeological heritage'

The International Conference 'Endangered Cultural Heritage. Protection and Enhancement of the Duhok Region Archaeological Heritage (Kurdistan Region of Iraq)' presents the results of the recording, conservation and management project carried out by the University of Udine and the Institute of Heritage Science of the National Research Council on the Assyrian irrigation system in the Duhok region. The project was conducted in cooperation with the KRG Directorate General of Antiquities and the Duhok Directorate of Antiquities and has been funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
The presentation of the archaeological and environmental park project of the Assyrian irrigation system, its monuments (Khinis and Maltai rock reliefs, Jerwan aqueduct) and natural landscape and the proposal to submit this unique archaeological heritage to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List are accompanied by an exhibition illustrating the archaeological park through photo panels and photorealistic renderings.
During the conference, the activities of the 'Missione Archeologica Italiana nel Kurdistan Iracheno' of Sapienza University of Rome in the Paikuli region (Slemani) and at the Erbil Citadel will also be illustrated.
