From 13 to 18 May a Chinese delegation of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) will be in Italy for the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which gave birth in 2011 to the joint laboratory between CAS - Radi and the Institute of methodologies for environmental analysis (Cnr-Imaa), today a center of Sino-Italian excellence under the scientific direction of Rosa Lasaponara.

The center is part of the international scientific network of the 'One Belt one Road' program which, as described in the article published in the prestigious journal Nature, aims to support collaborations and projects to help overcome the technical divisions between richer and poorer nations, establishing joint programs and international laboratories.
In this context the Italian and Chinese researchers organized a bilateral workshop to discuss the results achieved and the future scientific challenges to face in the field of earth observation for archeology, monuments and, landscape risk monitoring and mitigation for their preservation.

The relationships between the Beijing CAS and Cnr-Imaa and Ibam have been characterized over the years by systematic and continuous collaborations with a series of joint scientific projects, on the use of these technologies in China with particular reference to the sites of Luoyang and Kaifeng in Henan, Niya in Xinjiang, and the study and survey of ancient traces of the Silk Road.

Moreover, these Institutes are involved in the 'Digital Belt Road' project on Cultural Heritage which aims to develop, through the center of excellence, a Sino-Italian joint laboratory, methodologies and technologies to support the management and protection of sites of cultural interest with particular reference to those registered in the World Heritage Site.
The workshop of 13-18 May coordinated by Rosa Lasaponara (Cnr-Imaa), Xinyuan Wang del Cas and Nicola Masini (Cnr-Ibam) includes meetings and field surveys in Basilicata, Apulia, Molise and Campania to develop, share and validate procedures and technologies for the study of the human past, risk mitigation, preservation and conservation of cultural heritage with particular reference to World Heritage sites.
