Workshop TECH-AIR 2016: 'Application of non-conventional analytical techniques to atmospheric particulate matter'
Il 07/11/2016 ore 09.00 - 17.00
Sala del Rettorato dell'università del Salento, Piazza Tancredi 7, 73100 Lecce
As part of its institutional activities, the Italian Aerosol Society (Ias, www.iasaerosol.it) is organizing a workshop entitled: "Application of non-conventional analytical techniques to atmospheric particulate matter". The study of composition and chemical reactivity of atmospheric particulate matter (PM) has a vital role to characterise pollution sources, the optical properties of PM and its toxicity. These are key elements to study the potential effects of PM on health and climate. Beside the use of conventional analytical techniques, widely applied to the characterization of atmospheric particulate, an increasingly important role is assumed by techniques and/or advanced analytical methods, widely used in other scientific fields, to obtain detailed information on physical-chemical properties of particulate matter. The Workshop is aimed at discussing the state-of-art of these techniques and their application to atmospheric aerosol studies. It is a scientific event, which will see the participation of several experts on this field from academic and research communities as well as from Environmental Agencies. Presentations will focus the most recent advances on this topic and discussions will deal with possible future developments and applications.
The Workshop foresees five invited talks, a poster session, and a final discussion session (round table). Lunch will be organised at the same venue of the workshop to allow discussion between the participants and the viewing of the posters. The analytical techniques treated at the Workshop and the corresponding invited talks are:
1) Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) applied to analysis of organics functional groups. Speaker: Prof. Satoshi Takahama, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne - Lausanne, Switzerland
2) Air Quality Control: the contribution of XPS. Speaker: Prof. Davide Atzei/Prof.ssa Antonella Rossi, Università degli studi di Cagliari
3) Multi Wave Absortion Analyzer (MWAA) for the analysis of carbonaceous content of PM. Speaker: Dr. Dario Massabò, Università di Genova & Infn
4) Aerosol Mass Spectrometry (AMS) for the study of the chemical composition of the particulate matter and the characterisation of organic aerosol with high temporal resolution. Speaker: Dr. Stefania Gilardoni, Isac-Cnr
5) Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) for the study of organics functional groups. Speaker: Dr. Stefano Decesari, Isac-Cnr
