Sara Buonomo  from EMBL Mouse Biology Unit, Monterotondo (RM) is interested in study the DNA replication that is temporally and spatially organized in all eukaryotes. The replication timing program is set up over large chromosomal domains in early G1 and implemented locally at origins of replication at the moment of firing. The molecular control of the pathway is still largely unknown, especially at the level of its establishment. The goal of Sara Buonomo's laboratory is to understand the relationship between replication-timing program establishment and tri-dimensional (3D) nuclear structure, its biological significance at organismal levels and its genetic and molecular regulation. Her current results suggest a direct link for replication timing and chromatin organization, X inactivation and genome stability. Her research therefore has the merit of exploring the mechanisms of a fundamental process with the added value of its significance in both the context of embryonic development and cellular transformation.
