CNR Aula Marconi, Piazzale Aldo Moro, 7 - 00185 Roma

Prof. Kazuyuki Tatsumi, President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) , has been invited to give a lecture on 7 May at CNR in Rome. The event is part of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of CNR.

Prof. Tatsumi is presently working at the Department of Chemistry - Nagoya University and he was  recently selected as Winner of the 2013 Japan Acdemy Prize, a very important award in recognition of his excellent academic merits.

His research activities focus on emerging areas of inorganic chemistry. Specific interests include, (1) structures and reactions that are unique to the active sites of various reductases such as nitrogenase, hydrogenase, CO-dehydrogenase, and acetyl-CoA synthase, (2) the development of new, catalytically active coordinatively unsaturated organometallic compounds, and (3) the synthesis of inorganic supramolecules relevant to nano-chemistry.

The research subjects are broad in scope, yet rigorous in approach, encompassing bio- inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, materials chemistry, and the interface with other disciplines. The aim is to understand the role transition metals play in various inorganic systems in order to design more efficient synthesis of the target compounds.
