The director of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the CNR is Prof. Francesco Dotta .
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery and specializing in Endocrinology at Sapienza University of Rome, he worked for several years in Boston at the Immunology Section of the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School.
He subsequently served as a Research Fellow and then Associate Professor of Endocrinology at Sapienza University of Rome.
He then moved to the University of Siena as Associate Professor and then Full Professor of Endocrinology.
From 2018 to 2024, he served as Director of the Department of Medical, Surgical, and Neurosciences and as Vice Rector for Health.
At the Siena University Hospital, he directed the Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases Unit.
In 2021, he promoted the establishment and coordinated the PhD program in Translational and Precision Medicine at the University of Siena.
He coordinates a multidisciplinary research group within a network of scientific collaborations, consistently funded by competitive national and international calls for proposals, and committed to identifying biomarkers and the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in various forms of diabetes mellitus and autoimmune endocrine diseases.
Author of over 250 publications in international journals listed in recognized databases (Scopus).
Member of numerous national and international committees for the evaluation of biomedical research projects.
