Abstract
The main project seeks a better understanding of religious diversity through an innovative, multidisciplinary approach by placing attention on the concept of source in a i) historical, ii) legal, and iii) linguistic analysis.
ILC-CNR will focus on the representation of religious diversity from a linguistic perspective. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism will be studied under the lens of linguistic analysis applied to archetypal textual sources. This research aims at representing similarities and differences between religions by analysing how key concepts have been signified through idioms appearing in historical sources and sacred, legal, and policy texts. From each corpus, the unit will extract a set of key terms and related concepts of each religion. This will be structured as a multilingual terminological-ontological resource. Each term belonging to a religion will be associated to a concept in the portion of the ontology representing that belief system and to the textual source(s) it was extracted from. Lastly, terms from different languages, and, accordingly, concepts from different religions, will be linked to highlight similarities and differences.
Obiettivi
The main objective is the construction of a multilingual termino-ontological resource where each term and concept pertaining to a specific religion will be related to terms and concepts of the other two. The first objectives will regard the setting up of the digital environment. Then, the partners will establish the corpus and define the criteria for the choice of the most relevant terms (and related concepts) to be modelled and interrelated. To correctly and formally represent the lexical and conceptual parts of the resource, the lexicographic and ontological models will have to be defined. Regarding the lexical part, the lemon model will be adopted and extended. The conceptual part will be represented with ontologies. The collaborative web editor for termino-ontological resources, LexO, will be customised and extended to allow users to build up the resource and link each term to the text(s) it has been extracted from. Each partner will be able to work on the part of the resource related to a specific language, while ILC-CNR will provide constant support in the use of the tool, its further customization, the extension of the model, and for bug-fixing.
