Abstract
We aim at quantifying different aspects of urban areas, mostly in Italy, using specific indicators both existing and newly defined within this project. The set of indicators should be concerned with geodiversity, biodiversity, morphometry, distribution of population, and natural hazards. In particular, we define a new quantitative and scale-independent model of geomorphodiversity (GM), a combination of geodiversity and geomorphological variety in urban areas. The analysis of the correlation between the GM index and the biodiversity index will create a potential new indicator for the safeguard of green spaces in cities. We tune the GM indicator at the local scale, in specific urban contexts, and extend its application at national scale, using existing data from the public domain. City delineation and spatial distribution of population are relevant to the application of the GM index, of natural and anthropic hazards, and of challenges related to the impact of epidemic diseases.
Obiettivi
We use state of the art techniques for the delineation of urban areas and the distribution of population into these areas. We aim at using network-inspired models to describe the interactions between different urban areas in Italy, both in time-independent and time-dependent way
