Abstract
This action is part of an initiative on climate resilient Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture (DeSIRA), which is steered by the European Commission and involves some EU Member States and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. By linking more effectively development initiatives with research and innovation, DeSIRA intends to boost innovation in agriculture and food systems transformation of partner countries with a view to be more resilient to the effects of climate change. It will contribute to the climate-relevant, productive, and sustainable transformation of agriculture and food systems in low and middle-income countries, thereby contributing to the achievement of the following SDG Targets: 2.3 (Agricultural productivity), 2.4 (Sustainable food systems and resilient agricultural practices), 2.A (Investments in research and extension), and 13.2 (integrate climate change into policies, strategies, and planning).
Obiettivi
Main outcomes are:
- Improved resilience to climate change of specific agricultural and food systems in 31 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Caribbean by 2025; and
- Increased climate relevance of Agriculture and Knowledge Innovation Systems (AKIS) in 31 countries in Africa and Latin America by 2025.
Capacity development of organisations and individuals in low and middle-income countries is at the basis of the intervention logic of this action, with a view to enhance the effectiveness of agricultural policies and research on a long-term basis and of supporting development cooperation and investment programmes through more climate-relevant agriculture knowledge and innovation systems, promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity conservation.
