Abstract
The significant amount of data available from different satellites in various frequencies and polarizations encourages the exploiting of the synergy among optical and microwave data and data acquired from active and passive sensors.
Some earth's surface parameters would benefit from this synergy taking advantage of the high spatial resolution and land classification capability of optical sensors combined with the sensitivity to water content and significant penetration into the surfaces typical of microwave sensors.
Two land parameters which would profit of this synergy are in particular soil moisture content (SM) and vegetation biomass (the latter expressed as plant water content, PWC).
