A Scientific Cooperation Agreement has been officially signed for the creation of an international joint laboratory between the Institute for the Microelectronics and Microsystems (CNR-IMM) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University (JHU Baltimore, USA), under the scientific leadership of dr. Annalisa Convertino for CNR-IMM and prof. Ishan Barman for JHU. The laboratory also involves the Institute for Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity (CNR-ISOF), with the participation of dr. Emanuela Saracino.
This three-year agreement is based on a joint research effort on topics of common interest, aimed at investigating specific biological mechanisms through an innovative approach that integrates nanostructured transparent substrates with optical diffraction tomography. Additionally, the joint laboratory will promote the training of young researchers in interdisciplinary fields related to advanced materials and new optical tools for biosystem exploration.
This agreement is based on a long-standing collaboration between Annalisa Convertino and Ishan Barman, developed through the networking initiatives of the International Working Group on "Advanced Materials, Nanomaterials, and Biophysics", within the framework of the Italy-USA cooperation on science and technology, led by dr. Luigi Ambrosio (CNR) and dr. Sofi Bin-Salamon (US Air Force Office of Scientific Research, AFOSR), and supported by prof. Larry Nagahara (JHU).
