As usual, the Course is meant to provide to scholars coming from all over the world an understanding of the main challenges concerning the contemporary debate on business and human rights while keeping up with current relevant developments at national, regional and international level.
The General programme focuses on the content of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and on their implementation at national and international level. Lectures will be organized around three Modules:
a) the State duty to protect human rights;
b) the corporate responsibility to respect human rights;
c) the victims’ access to remedy.
Speakers include some of the major worldwide experts in this area and among the others: Michael Addo, University of Notre Dame and former UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights; Nadia Bernaz, Wageningen University and Research; Ledi Bianku, Strasbourg University and former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights; Jonas Grimheden, European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA); Robert McCorquodale, University of Nottingham; Fabrizio Petri, President of the Inter-ministerial Committee for Human Rights (CIDU) Anita Ramasastry, member of the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights; Andrea Shemberg, Global Business Initiative on Human Rights (GBIHR); Tara Van Ho, University of Essex.

The Summer School, the first in Italy entirely devoted to the business and human rights debate, is the result of the scientific collaborations with the Wageningen University and Research, the University of Milan, and Human Rights International Corner association. The Course is an output of the research activities performed by Marco Fasciglione, Cnr researcher and Co-director of the Summer School. Marco Fasciglione, a human rights scholar, is the Principal Investigator of the Cnr project “CORE Corporate Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence and the promotion of Corporate Responsibility”.
