Prof. Francesca Carlomagno (from Dmmbm, University of Naples Federico II, Napoli, Italy) will give a Seminar on 'NCOA4 protein links iron homeostasis to genome stability'.
NCOA4 protein controls activation of DNA replication origins and promotes degradation of ferritin (ferritinophagy) in low iron conditions. DNA replication is strictly dependent on iron availability since many enzymes involved in this pathway are dependent on iron. Our data indicate that NCOA4 is part of a signaling cascade that links iron cellular levels to DNA replication control in order to prevent replication stress and maintain genome stability.
