The Superconducting and other innovative materials and devices institute (Spin) of the National Research Council, together with the Physics Department of the University of Genoa and the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (Isir) of Osaka University, organize a Workshop on Microactuators in the city of Genoa on October 8th at the Physics Department, via Dodecaneso 33.

The workshop gets together companies, research centers and universities of Italy and Japanese researchers to promote discussions and exchange of expertise in the field of microactuators and related materials. The field of microactuators - devices able to produce movements and apply forces at the microscale – is a fast growing field that comprises different technological products in robotics, medicine, automotive and consumer electronics.

During the workshop, discussions on microrobotics and micromanipulation, nanopositioning systems, microelectromechanical systems and innovative materials such as shape memory alloys, conducting polymers and vanadium dioxide will take place. Vanadium dioxide is under consideration for the fabrication of prototypes of microactuators thanks to its capacity to contract/expand if subject to small changes of temperature.

This event is organized in the framework of the bilateral project 'Solid State Actuators for  Micro/Nanorobotics', sponsored by Executive programme of cooperation between Italy and Japan by the Directorate General for Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, of the Italian Republic.
