Lecture by Tamas Dezso Ziegler, Research Fellow at the European & International Law Department, Institute for Legal Studies - Center for Social Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences (HAS).

Several countries all over Europe amended their own asylum system in the last couple of years.
One of them is Hungary, which built a fence on its southern border, introduced numerous repressive rules and started an action for annulment against the EU quota system at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
The Lecture of Tamas Dezso Ziegler will try to summarize the most important actions (including legislative changes as well as political aspects of the problem) and also give some overview on the problematic nature of their relations to the EU rules and the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Lecture has been organizewd in the development of the Joint Bilateral Project on: Human Rights of Asylum Seekers in Italy and Hungary - Influence of International and EU Law on Domestic Actions (Joint bilateral project between the Institute for International Legala Studies - ISGI of the CNR and the Institute for Legal studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences - HAS.
