Stress control of IL-1beta processing and secretion: consequences on the inflammatory response

Il 08/07/2014 ore 12.00 - 13.30

Sala conferenze CNR, Via P. Castellino, 111 80131 Napoli

Dr Rubartelli is an expert of inflammation and innate immune response. Her key scientific achievements include the identification of a leaderless secretory pathway for secretory proteins lacking signal sequences in the early '90s. In particular, her studies focused on proteins involved in inflammation, such as Interleukin-1beta, IL-18, thioredoxin and HMGB1. Later on, she got involved in the study of the redox response to stress, in acute and chronic inflammation. The results obtained, translated to the study of pathologic conditions such as autoinflammatory and autoimmune syndromes, and cancer, allowed to clarify several aspects of the pathogenesis of these diseases.

Dr Anna Rubartelli received her Doctor of Medicine magna cum laude in 1981 at the University of Genoa, Italy, and completed her specialist training in Clinical and Experimental Hematology at the same University. Currently, she is the Director of the Cell Biology Unit at the IRCCS San Martino IST National Institute for Cancer Research, Genova, Italy.

Rubartelli is an Associate Editor for Frontiers of Inflammation and European Journal of Immunology. She is author of numerous scientific papers on high ranked international journals, and of several articles on Books.
