Dr Francesca Carlomagno from Dipartimento di Medicina Molecolare e Biotecnologie Mediche Universita' degli studi di Napoli Federico II, has been involved in depicting the molecularbasis of thyroid carcinogenesis, going from the study of the effect ofgenetic alterations of RET gene in thyroid tumours to the discovery oftyrosine kinase inhibitors able to block RET mediated transformationboth in vitro and in vivo. More recently she has been involved also instudying the role of a novel DNA replication inhibitor, NCOA4 protein,whose gene is frequently rearranged in thyroid tumours.
