"DNA Helicases and their roles in cancer, genetic diseases, and aging"

Il 20/06/2014 ore 14.30 - 15.30

Sala Conferenze, Area della Ricerca NA1, Via P. Castellino, 111 80131 Napoli

Prof. Robert M. Brosh from the National Institute on Aging, National Institutes of Health, NIH Biomedical Research Center, Baltimore, USA will give a seminar on DNA Helicases activity. Helicases are molecular motors that catalytically unwind structured nucleic acids in an ATP-dependent manner.  The growing number of DNA helicases implicated in hereditary diseases and cancer strongly suggest that these enzymes have vital specialized roles in cellular pathways important for the maintenance of chromosomal integrity.  Brosh's group, the Section on DNA Helicases of the National Institute on Aging, NIH, investigates the involvement of helicases in nuclear and mitochondrial genome stability at the cellular and molecular level.
